A magical wish inspired my "Stars and Back" Collection.
It was the last night of maternity leave with my second baby. Normally I love my job...but that night, I was dreading it.
I felt anxious and overwhelmed. After months away, would I be able to dive back into my career?
And if I did, would I still be a good mom?
After a bedtime battle with my toddler, I escaped to the yard for some deep breathing (okay, hyperventilating...).
Standing on the back porch, I happened to look up and see a shooting star streaking across the darkness.
The star was unexpected and magical, and it gave me a moment of peace from my worries.
In that moment I closed my eyes and made a wish for my children--and myself:
I wished for us to have the strength to overcome any obstacle.
The peace to find calm amidst chaos.
The abundance to live a life of joy and fulfillment.
When I opened my eyes, I felt a sense of hope wash over me.Suddenly I knew we had everything we needed to create those things for ourselves.
As I walked back into the house, I felt calmer. More trusting.
Trusting my own strength. Trusting my children's strength.
I tiptoed down the hall and peeked at my toddler sleeping soundly in his bed. I scooped up my baby for his bedtime milk and snuggles.
And everything was okay.
I painted the "Stars and Back" Collection to capture that feeling...and to remember that wish.
I drew the constellations from real star maps, and I crafted each piece to bring together symbology of flora and fauna:
Doves nestled in lavender represent the peace and comfort of home.
Bears and potentilla flowers symbolize the strength and resilience of love that stands the test of time.
Rabbits playing in hydrangea remind us of the abundance that comes from joy and playfulness.
These prints are more than just artwork. They are a daily reminder of the wishes we make for our families.

About Lauren
As an artist and mother, I am inspired by the everyday moments I share with my children. After maternity leave with my youngest, I painted the Stars and Back Collection to capture my hopes and wishes for the future of our family.
I work in a variety of mediums from watercolor to digital, pencils, and guache. I live in New Mexico with my husband and two exceptionally energetic sons. When I'm not in the studio, you can find us at the park or in the dinosaur section of the nearest bookstore.
